This latest Defender is a true icon imagined for the 21st century, with a recognisable silhouette but one that’s been thoroughly modernised. Key design details such as minimal front and overhangs serve a purpose rather than just being there for design's sake – they give the Defender an excellent approach and departure angle for those looking to use their Defender off-road.

Other details such as Alpine light windows in the roof and the side-hinged rear tailgate and externally-mounted spare wheel are also nods to the original.

A similar theme runs throughout the Defender’s interior, which manages to still feel utilitarian but with a much more modern and premium interior. Adding to that adventurous personality, details such as exposed fittings are used, along with hard-wearing materials for the trim, along with a durable rubberised flooring that can be easily brushed or wiped clean.

The Defender 110’s interior can also be had in a range of configurations. As standard, it comes with five seats and a generous load bay, but it can be specified with an optional front central jump seat to make it a six-seater, or two seats that fold away into the boot floor to make it a seven-seater.

The Defender is available in a variety of configurations, with the range beginning with the X-Dynamic S. Standard equipment is generous and includes 19-inch gloss black wheels, ebony ‘resist and Robustec’ seats, a Meridian sound system and 12-way heated semi-powered front seats.

Make the step up to the XS Edition and it gains diamond-turned 20-inch alloy wheels and leather seat facings. Above this, the X-Dynamic SE brings configurable cabin lighting, rear cross-traffic alert and revised 20-inch alloy wheels. After this sits the high-end HSE model, which brings automatic headlight levelling, a sliding panoramic roof and cooled seats. At the top of the standard Defender range is the X, which packs Matrix LED headlights, a digital rear-view mirror, Windsor leather seats and a head-up display.

Land Rover also offers a V8 version of the Defender, which is its own trim in itself. Not only do you get the legendary engine, but also 22-inch alloy wheels, suede cloth and leather seats, and darkened tail lights. At the top of the range, the V8 Carpathian Edition features gloss black 22-inch alloy wheels, Xenon Blue brake callipers and various satin black details.
